Israel is accused of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza by the EU’s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell at the UN Security Council. Borrell stated that the situation in Gaza is man-made, with 500,000 people on the brink of starvation due to blocked aid trucks.
Borrell called on Israel to allow humanitarian support to reach Gaza to prevent the starvation of hundreds of thousands of people. He also compared Israeli aggression in Gaza to Russian aggression in Ukraine, breaking a taboo in EU diplomacy.
Humanitarian groups have criticized the slow delivery of aid to Gaza and the accusations against UNRWA, the UN’s leading aid agency for Palestinians.
While Borrell and von der Leyen spoke out on the situation in Gaza, EU efforts to address Israeli aggression have faced challenges, including delays in implementing measures to curb violence.
