Islamic State militants escaped from Al-Shaddadi prison in eastern Syria during a chaotic transfer from Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to the Syrian government, following a ceasefire. The transfer, part of an integration agreement, faced delays, prompting frustration from Syrian leadership. Although fewer than 200 detainees were present during the transition, most of those who escaped were low-level fighters. U.S. forces are monitoring the situation closely and have increased military presence in the region.
