iRobot, the maker of Roomba robotic vacuum cleaners, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced its sale to Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen PICEA Robotics Co. Despite the sale, iRobot reassured customers that there would be no disruptions to its services. The company, founded in 1990 by MIT roboticists, faced declining sales and financial struggles before the acquisition. Amazon’s failed attempt to acquire iRobot in 2022 led to the restructuring and eventual sale to PICEA Robotics.
