Iran’s authorities escalated anti-US rhetoric during state-organised rallies commemorating the Islamic revolution, following deadly protests, with chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”. Coffins representing top US military commanders were displayed in Tehran, while Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Iranians to participate in the anniversary events. The festivities come after a recent war with Israel and the US, as well as nationwide protests, with calls for national unity in the face of external threats. The rallies featured burning of effigies and displays of missiles capable of reaching Israel, as Iranian officials celebrated what they described as victories over “enemies”.
