Three members of the Iranian women’s football team who sought asylum in Australia have decided to return to Iran, leaving only three of the seven players to remain. Iranian state media criticized this decision as a failure for Australia, linking it to political pressures. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke stated the government had provided opportunities for a safe future but acknowledged the difficult context of their choices. The players are expected to return to Iran via Turkey after a stop in Malaysia.
