Iran warns Italy that bilateral ties at risk if it bows to 'hostile' US demands over drone suspect

Iran warned Italy about harming their bilateral relations by detaining an Iranian engineer wanted by the U.S. in connection with a drone attack in Jordan. The engineer, Mohammad Abedini, was arrested in Milan while an Italian journalist, Cecilia Sala, was detained in Tehran. Iran demanded Abedini’s release to prevent further damage to their relations with Italy and linked Sala’s fate to his. The situation is further complicated by the upcoming court hearing to decide Abedini’s custody status and Italy’s previous mishandling of a high-profile extradition case.
