Iran is likely to reject a US proposal to transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to a third country, as negotiations continue in Muscat, Oman, between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff. Iran insists the stockpile should remain under UN supervision in Iran to safeguard against potential future US withdrawal from the agreement, fearing it would force Iran to restart enrichment. The next round of talks will be hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, highlighting Italy’s emerging role in the negotiations amid ongoing US-Iran tensions.
