Karnataka caste census report: Lingayat Mahasabha rejects findings

Karnataka’s government is under pressure following the leak of a controversial caste census report, which has prompted backlash from the influential Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar is convening a meeting of Vokkaliga Congress MLAs to discuss the report, which suggests Vokkaligas make up 10.3% of the population with a proposed 7% reservation, while Lingayats represent 11% with an 8% reservation recommendation, despite community divisions. The report also estimates the Muslim population at 12.6% and suggests doubling their reservation, leading to calls for a fresh survey from community leaders.
