Investor charged with kidnapping Crypto King and interfering in co-accused case

One of Aiden Pleterski’s investors, Akil Heywood, faces new charges, including attempting to dissuade a co-accused from testifying in a kidnapping case tied to Pleterski, known as the “Crypto King.” Heywood, who invested substantial funds with Pleterski, was charged last month with trying to influence Deren Akyeam-Pong, who has already pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to Pleterski’s kidnapping. In addition, Heywood has been implicated in a recent street racing incident that resulted in injuries to four individuals. He was arrested in July 2023 for his alleged role in Pleterski’s kidnapping and remains out on bail as he awaits trial for kidnapping and attempted extortion scheduled for November 2025. Pleterski’s own legal troubles stem from accusations of fraud and money laundering involving over $40 million from investors.

Why It Matters

This case highlights significant issues surrounding cryptocurrency investments and the potential for criminal behavior in high-stakes financial environments. Aiden Pleterski’s bankruptcy was triggered by claims from investors seeking to recover their lost funds, with only a fraction of the total amount being returned. The violent nature of the kidnapping reflects the extreme measures that some individuals may resort to in order to recover perceived debts. As the legal proceedings unfold, they may set important precedents regarding investor protections and accountability in the cryptocurrency sector.
