Indonesia increases military presence to address Borneo wildfires

The Indonesian government is deploying 1,500 additional soldiers to Borneo to combat wildfires that have consumed over 200,000 hectares of land, exacerbated by dry conditions linked to the El Nino weather phenomenon. President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the urgency of containment efforts, while local authorities have advised residents to wear masks due to thick smog affecting air quality. The current fires have already burned more land than in previous El Nino years, except for the severe conditions in 2015.
