ICE says Mass. judge has no jurisdiction in case of detained Tufts student

Tufts graduate student Rümeysa Öztürk was swiftly arrested in Somerville by ICE agents and transported to a Louisiana detention center after her visa was revoked for alleged Hamas support. Legal challenges to her detention were disputed by federal officials, claiming lack of jurisdiction in Massachusetts due to Öztürk’s location when the case was filed. Despite calls for her release, Öztürk remains in Louisiana as her lawyers argue her unlawful detention and violations of free speech and due process rights.
