Three people have died at Camp East Montana, a migrant detention center in Texas, since it opened in August 2025. Despite ongoing calls for its closure due to allegations of human rights abuses, including mistreatment and medical neglect of detainees, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has extended its lease for another year at a cost of $776 million to taxpayers. Reports by Human Rights Watch and the ACLU highlight severe issues at the facility, which housed approximately 1,600 detainees as of February 2026.
