Avelo Airlines Targets Migrant Transport
Avelo Airlines has signed a contract with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to operate deportation flights under U.S. Immigration Control and Enforcement (ICE) policies, a move deemed necessary for the airline’s financial stability. Starting May 14, Avelo will use three Boeing 737-800 planes at a new hub in Phoenix for both domestic and international flights, which will not display the airline’s logo. The deal represents a shift from traditional retail airlines to charter services, raising concerns among immigrant advocates about the implications of such operations.
