Hundreds of Swedish forces arrive in Latvia in largest deployment with NATO to date

Hundreds of Swedish troops arrived in Latvia to join a Canadian-led multinational brigade along NATO’s eastern flank, marking Sweden’s most significant operation as a member of the alliance. The mission, consisting of 550 troops, aims to contribute to deterrence and defense efforts in the region, amidst tensions heightened by Russia’s war against Ukraine. Sweden joined NATO in March as the 32nd member, following Finland’s decision to abandon military neutrality in April due to concerns over Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
