Hugo’s Family Marketplace, a family-owned grocery chain based in Grand Forks, has extended its sponsorship of the local BMX track, known as Hugo’s Raceway, for another five years. The announcement was made by Red River BMX and Oak View Group, which manages the Alerus Center. Over the years, Hugo’s Raceway has hosted numerous local, regional, and national BMX events, providing opportunities for youth engagement and recreation. A celebration marking the 2026 Red River Nationals is scheduled for July 17 at the track. Kristi Magnuson Nelson, president and CEO of Hugo’s Family Marketplace, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership’s continuation, highlighting its positive impact on the community. Red River BMX board member Danny Weigel acknowledged the importance of Hugo’s support in maintaining the facility and enhancing its programs for all skill levels.

Why It Matters

Hugo’s Raceway plays a significant role in promoting youth sports and community engagement in Grand Forks. BMX racing offers children and families a platform for physical activity and social interaction, contributing to healthier lifestyles. The track’s ongoing sponsorship reflects a commitment to local initiatives that foster recreational opportunities. Historical data indicates that community-based sponsorships often lead to improved facilities and increased participation in sports, which can enhance community spirit and cohesion.
