A Dartmouth volunteer-run organization is purchasing nearly $6,000 worth of food monthly for its community fridge, located at a church on Dundas Street, to assist those struggling with living costs. The initiative, supported by donations from community members and local businesses, has seen increased demand, with food disappearing within hours of being stocked. Over 60 active volunteers maintain the fridge, which has provided over $60,000 worth of food from April 2024 to March 2025, funded primarily through fundraising efforts. Statistics reveal that over 29% of Nova Scotians faced food insecurity in 2023, highlighting the growing necessity for such community support initiatives.
