China modifies Rubio’s name for Trump summit participation amid sanctions

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, under Chinese sanctions, entered China using the name ‘Marco Lu’ due to a diplomatic workaround. This name change allowed China to welcome him without lifting the sanctions, which were imposed in response to his criticisms of Beijing’s policies on Hong Kong and the Uighur minority. The sanctions date back to his tenure as a senator, during which he advocated for measures against forced labor in Xinjiang.
