In his final week in office, President Joe Biden designated nearly 850,000 acres of federal land in California as two new national monuments, bringing his total to 674 million acres protected. Despite facing obstacles, legislation was signed to allow a Women’s Suffrage National Monument to be built on the National Mall, making it the first monument honoring women there, with a design that reflects the multifaceted nature of women’s contributions throughout history.
