HOUSTON —
Before dawn on Saturday, vehicles lined up at NRG Stadium as the Houston Food Bank opened a large-scale “supersite” to distribute food to families facing potential cuts in federal aid, serving about 5,000 families. With the looming risk of delays in SNAP benefits affecting 42 million Americans, many, like Angelina Alonzo and Armando Hinojosa, shared their struggles to make ends meet. The food bank’s CEO, Brian Greene, noted that this urgent demand mirrors the pandemic’s peak and warned that current efforts may not suffice if benefits are suspended. The Houston Texans Foundation partnered with the food bank for this distribution, highlighting the growing need for assistance in the community.
