In 1989, Paul Holmes began reshaping local television with his bold breakfast radio show on Newstalk ZB, followed by the groundbreaking Holmes TV current affairs show. Known for his confrontational style, Holmes made headlines by hectoring American yachtsman Dennis Conner on air. Despite controversies, he also covered important stories, such as championing HIV-positive girl Eve van Grafhorst.
