Logan MacPhail, 17, who stalked and stabbed 15-year-old Holly Newton 36 times in a Northumberland alleyway after their relationship ended, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 17 years in prison by judge Mr Justice Hilliard. The judge condemned MacPhail for his resentment and jealousy, noting the deliberate and brutal nature of the attack. Holly’s mother, Micala Trussler, expressed the pain of her daughter dying without her by her side in a victim impact statement read during the trial.
