Ahmad Hassoun sentenced to life in prison for barrel bomb offenses

Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, the former grand mufti of Syria, has been sentenced to life in prison by the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus for crimes committed during the Syrian conflict. The court found him guilty of inciting violence, justifying killings, and abusing his position. Hassoun was arrested in March 2025 after emerging from hiding, and his trial began in June.
