In a quirky competition held by the Bureau of Land Management to raise awareness about the ecological importance of bats, a hoary bat named “Hoary Potter” from Oregon won a beauty contest against other bats like “Lestat” and “Sir Flaps-A-Lot”. This victory marks the third consecutive year that a bat from Oregon has taken first place in the contest, with previous winners including “William ShakespEAR” and “Barbara”. The bats are photographed by agency staff and the photos are posted on social media for public voting, showcasing the wild populations living on public lands.
