In the recent elections in Hasselt, Karolien Mondelaers of CD&V received significant voter support, surpassing incumbent Steven Vandeput of N-VA. CD&V secured 11 seats, while N-VA/Open VLD won 13 seats. Despite the strong voter backing for Mondelaers, she expressed her intention to assist in running the city rather than pursuing the mayor position, leading to N-VA/Open VLD group securing the mayor position and 4 aldermen seats, with CD&V and Vooruit each having 3 aldermen.
