Half of Auckland homes damaged in storms sign up for council’s buyout scheme

More than 7000 Auckland properties were damaged by flooding or slips in 2023 due to storms, with fewer than half of them opting into the council’s buyout scheme for assessing risk. Homeowners have until the end of the month to sign up for the scheme, as the council aims to address the aftermath of the natural disasters and support affected residents. Craig Hobbs, the lead for natural and built environment, emphasized the importance of participating in the scheme to assist in recovery efforts.
