More than 600 dairy farmers and industry leaders gathered at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua for the 2026 New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards, where over $1 million in prizes were distributed. Scott and Stacey Mackereth from the Southland/Otago region received the title of 2026 New Zealand Share Farmers of the Year. The New Zealand Dairy Manager of the Year award was given to Lauren McConnachie from Canterbury/North Otago, while Mark Ready from West Coast/Top of the South was named New Zealand Dairy Trainee of the Year. The event highlighted the importance of the dairy sector to the economy and showcased the achievements of top performers in the industry.

Why It Matters

The New Zealand dairy industry is a significant contributor to the country’s economy, comprising approximately 20% of total exports. In recent years, the sector has faced challenges such as fluctuating milk prices and environmental concerns, prompting the need for innovation and sustainability practices. The Dairy Industry Awards play a crucial role in recognizing excellence and motivating farmers to adopt best practices, which can enhance productivity and sustainability. By celebrating achievements, these awards also promote the dairy sector’s importance and its ongoing development in a competitive global market.
