Armed men have killed at least 35 people and burned homes and shops in Woro, a remote village in Nigeria’s north-central Kwara State, with many others fleeing into the bush. The attack, the deadliest this year in the area bordering Niger State, was confirmed by police, with the state government attributing it to “terrorist cells”. Banditry and armed attacks on rural communities have increased in northwest and north-central Nigeria in recent years, with gangs raiding villages, kidnapping residents, and looting livestock.
