The WIAA state track and field meet is scheduled for June 5-6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse, featuring several top competitors aiming for individual and team championships. Last year, local teams such as De Pere and Green Bay Notre Dame secured state titles, and the current season is expected to showcase more champions. Notable athletes include Lincoln Arneson from Denmark, who holds the fastest 400-meter dash time in Division 2, and Lera Black from Ashwaubenon, making her state debut in pole vault and triple jump after breaking school records. Maximus Davis from Green Bay Preble enters the pole vault competition with strong sectional performances, while Coleman’s Hunter Dehart looks to improve upon his previous state finishes in shot put and discus. Ella Denor from Denmark and Emerson Fabry from Pulaski are also key contenders in their respective events, aiming for top finishes based on their recent performances.

Why It Matters

The WIAA state track and field meet serves as a significant platform for high school athletes to showcase their talents at a competitive level. Historically, it has been a breeding ground for future collegiate athletes and has produced numerous state champions over the years. The athletes competing this year, such as Arneson, Black, and Davis, represent the ongoing legacy of excellence in Wisconsin high school track and field, contributing to the sports culture and inspiring younger athletes in their communities. The event’s results can influence recruitment for colleges and impact the future of these athletes’ careers in sports.
