Karl Edgeller’s Tragic Death
Karl Edgeller, a 57-year-old grandfather, died after consuming shots of 97% proof moonshine with his friend Paul Johnson during a drinking challenge at Johnson’s home in Weeting, Norfolk, on March 3, 2022. The moonshine, smuggled from Estonia and intended for hand sanitiser, was consumed without dilution, despite warnings. An inquest revealed that Edgeller’s death resulted from alcohol and duloxetine toxicity, exacerbated by his sleep apnoea and positional asphyxia, with the coroner concluding it was a case of misadventure.
