First, Dan Skelton landed the opening handicap hurdle to tighten his grip on a thrilling race for the champion trainers’ title, before Brighterdaysahead struck in the Mersey Novices’s Hurdle to give trainer Gordon Elliot a big boost ahead of his seven-pronged assault on the National.
