Maine Democrat alleges billionaire agenda behind anti-trans sports campaign

Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner of Maine has claimed that the opposition to transgender athletes in women’s sports is driven by an “out-of-state billionaire” agenda, referring to it as propaganda. During an interview on Slate’s “Death, Sex & Money” podcast, Platner argued that the issue diverts attention from more pressing topics, such as rural healthcare access. A referendum on banning biological male athletes from competing in female sports will appear on Maine’s November ballot, following advocacy from the Protect Girls Sports in Maine organization.
