Washington — Over 1.4 million federal employees affected by the 43-day government shutdown will begin receiving paychecks starting Sunday, Nov. 16, with most expected to have back pay by Nov. 19. Essential workers continued to work without pay during the shutdown and will receive back pay, while nonessential employees were furloughed. The initial paychecks will cover base pay from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1, excluding bonuses and overtime. The legislation to end the shutdown has funding extended until Jan. 30, raising concerns of future funding battles.
