Google may equip Pixel 11a with a newer processor

Mystic Leaks has indicated that the upcoming Pixel 11a will feature a flagship-grade Tensor G6 processor, a significant upgrade from the Tensor G5 used in the Pixel 10 series. In contrast, the Pixel 10a was equipped with the older Tensor G4, disappointing many users who expected better performance. The new Tensor G6 is expected to retain the same PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU as its predecessor but will replace the Mali-G715 GPU found in the G4, providing improved graphics performance. Additionally, the G6 will switch from Samsung’s Exynos modems to a MediaTek M90 modem, potentially resolving longstanding issues with battery drain and dropped signals. The Pixel 11a is anticipated to have a slightly smaller battery capacity of 4,870mAh, down from 5,000mAh, yet efficiency gains from the new processor may enhance battery life. The phone will feature a 6.3-inch 1080 x 2424 display with a peak brightness of 3,350 nits, an increase from the previous model’s 3,000 nits.

Why It Matters

The Pixel series has historically been significant in the smartphone market due to its focus on integrating advanced software with hardware, particularly through Google’s proprietary Tensor processors. The transition to the Tensor G6 represents a strategic shift aimed at enhancing performance and connectivity, addressing user concerns from earlier models. The inclusion of a MediaTek modem may improve overall user experience by mitigating connectivity issues and battery life concerns that have affected previous generations. As competition in the smartphone market intensifies, particularly among mid-range devices, these upgrades are crucial for maintaining consumer interest and market positioning.
