Gold prices are surging, with the SPDR Gold Shares fund (GLD) up 11% in 2025 and 42% over the past year, while gold futures prices are up 10% year-to-date and 36% higher than a year ago. In contrast, the S&P 500 U.S. stock index is up 1.5% this year and 17% over the past year. Investment experts caution against chasing the shiny object, advising investors to follow Warren Buffett’s advice to be cautious when others are greedy and bold when others are fearful.
