A recent exploration of Hong Kong reveals the city’s significant green spaces, with approximately 75% of its land remaining undeveloped. Despite its bustling urban environment, over 40% is designated as protected parks and special areas. Travelers staying at The Hari Hong Kong, located in the historic Wan Chai district, can access extensive hiking trails just a short walk away, including the 50-kilometer trail system. The hotel promotes longer stays with packages offering discounts, including a special 25% off for four-night stays. General manager Edward E. Snoeks highlights the ease of accessing Hong Kong’s natural beauty alongside its urban culture, encouraging visitors to explore both the vibrant streets of Wan Chai and the surrounding landscapes.
Why It Matters
Hong Kong is known for its dense population of nearly eight million residents, yet it boasts a wealth of natural resources and hiking opportunities. The preservation of green spaces is crucial in urban areas for environmental sustainability, providing habitats for local wildlife and recreational spaces for residents and visitors. The city’s commitment to maintaining protected parks is a vital part of its urban planning strategy, aiming to balance development with conservation. This approach not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also attracts tourists interested in outdoor activities amidst a major metropolis.
