The head of Gaza’s Health Ministry tells Al Jazeera that situation of hospitals is ‘horrific’ due to lack of medical supplies.
Gaza’s health system is nearing collapse as hospitals face severe shortages of essential medical supplies due to ongoing Israeli blockades, according to Munir al-Barsh, director-general of the Health Ministry. With over 1,700 health workers killed and 125 facilities damaged, thousands of patients, including 4,000 glaucoma sufferers and 320,000 children at risk of malnutrition, await treatment amid worsening conditions. Al-Barsh reported that at least 1,156 patients have died waiting for travel approvals for treatment outside Gaza. He urged immediate action to open border crossings for humanitarian aid and patient transfers, warning that further delays could cost lives.
