The battle to build gay rodeo
Phil Ragsdale founded the International Gay Rodeo Association in 1975, initially struggling to secure venues and livestock for a gay rodeo in Reno, which eventually drew thousands. The gay rodeo circuit expanded despite challenges, but was significantly impacted by the HIV pandemic, affecting membership and participation, with recovery efforts ongoing.
