Gary man dies after confronting police with a machete – Chicago Tribune

A Gary man suspected of multiple robberies was shot and killed by a Gary Police officer after pulling a machete during an altercation. The man, identified as 21-year-old Shahaud Richmond, attacked an officer during an undercover operation on Maryland St., resulting in his death at a local hospital. The officer involved, a 32-year veteran, will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
