Police are investigating a car theft incident in Garbutt, Townsville, where a baby was left inside the stolen vehicle. The theft occurred on Monday afternoon around 1:44 PM when unknown offenders took a black Isuzu D-Max parked in a driveway, with the baby secured in a car seat. Shortly after the theft, the offenders abandoned the vehicle and placed the baby on the footpath before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and paramedics assessed the child as a precaution. Police conducted patrols but were unable to locate the stolen vehicle, and they are now appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the car with Queensland registration 840A4B.

Why It Matters

This incident highlights the increasing concern over vehicle thefts, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals. Car thefts in Australia have seen various trends, with certain regions experiencing spikes in such crimes. The safety of children during such incidents raises alarms about community safety and the need for preventative measures. Police efforts to engage the public in investigations are crucial, as community involvement often leads to swifter resolutions and increased accountability for offenders.
