Police responded to a report of an unlicensed firearm at a Waitārere Beach property, only to return hours later to find a man dead and three others critically injured from gunshot wounds. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Benjamin Timmins, while the injured include a 46-year-old woman and two young men, aged 17 and 21. Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham indicated that the investigation could take several days. The initial call to authorities occurred around 7:15 PM on January 13.
