Santander is set to close 44 bank branches this year, affecting nearly 300 jobs, due to a significant shift towards digital banking, with 96% of transactions now online. The closures will be compensated by ‘community bankers’ operating from Santander Local stores or banking hubs to maintain community presence. This decision follows last year’s closure of 95 branches, impacting 750 employees. The affected branches span across the UK, from Kent to North Lincolnshire, with closures scheduled through May 2026 and into early 2027.
