Syrians return home to rebuild after years of conflict

Yasseen Tasabehji and his family, who relocated from Syria to Canada in 2010, returned to Damascus after the fall of the al-Assad regime in December 2024. Inspired by the potential for change, they opened a climbing gym to support local youth and foster community. Their return is part of a larger trend, with 1.5 million Syrians coming back since the regime’s collapse, despite ongoing economic challenges and a need for humanitarian assistance among millions in the country.
