French soldier killed and others injured in Iraq attack, Macron reports

A French soldier, Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion, was killed in an attack in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, which President Emmanuel Macron condemned as “unacceptable.” Several other soldiers were wounded in the incident, attributed to Iranian-aligned groups as tensions rise in the region amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. French forces have been in Iraq since 2015 as part of the fight against ISIS.
