French citizen Olivier Grondeau has been released from imprisonment in Iran after over 880 days, as confirmed by French officials. The release came on Nowruz, the Persian New Year, a time when Iran has historically freed prisoners. French President Emmanuel Macron and Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s minister for Europe and foreign affairs, welcomed Grondeau’s release and vowed to continue efforts to secure the release of other French nationals still held in Iran, including Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris.
