A Wellington “mega-landlord,” Matthew Ryan, is facing multiple serious criminal charges, including firearm possession, strangulation, and making and distributing intimate visual recordings. As the owner of over 200 properties, he appeared in Wellington District Court where the charges were presented, including unlawful possession of a firearm, threatening to kill, and making intimate recordings. The firearm charge stems from Ryan allegedly possessing a hunting rifle after his license was revoked, which he claimed was for rabbit shooting, although he hadn’t used it in over 20 years.
