The UN peacekeeping mission reported that four United Nations observers, including one from Australia, were injured by a shell explosion during a foot patrol in south Lebanon.
According to Hezbollah-run TV station Al-Manar, the drone strike wounded observers from Australia, Chile, and Norway, along with a Lebanese interpreter.
Sources mentioned that the incident took place near the border town of Rmeish.
UNIFIL condemned the targeting of peacekeepers as “unacceptable”.
The Israeli military denied any involvement in the incident, stating that they did not strike a UNIFIL vehicle in the area.
The mayor of Rmeish, Milad Alam, confirmed that the condition of the Lebanese interpreter was stable after the blast.
Milad mentioned that the foreign observers were transported to hospitals in Tyre and Beirut for treatment.
Israel has been engaged in clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon for nearly six months, resulting in casualties on both sides.
The UN technical observer mission, UNTSO, monitors the border between Lebanon and Israel, while UNIFIL is an armed peacekeeping mission.
