Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been indicted for abuse of authority, adding to his ongoing trial for insurrection related to a brief martial law declaration last December. The martial law, which involved deploying soldiers to parliament, was quickly overturned by opposition MPs leading to Yoon’s impeachment and removal from office. Following a raid on his residence linked to bribery allegations against his wife, Yoon faces severe penalties if convicted, including life imprisonment or death, amid preparations for a snap election on June 3.
