Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak expressed regret for his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after the release of millions of files by the US Department of Justice. Barak admitted to meeting Epstein in 2003 and staying at his Manhattan home multiple times between 2015 and 2019. He claimed he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes until a wider probe in 2019. Barak also visited Epstein’s island in the US Virgin Islands but said he saw nothing suspicious. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while facing charges of sex trafficking underage girls. The released files also revealed Epstein’s ties to Israel and funding of Israeli groups. Barak addressed comments he made in a recording with Epstein about Israeli immigration and denied any inappropriate conduct. Questions also arose about Norwegian diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen’s involvement with Epstein.
