A 52-year-old roofer, John McDonald, led police on a 12-minute high-speed chase in Birmingham, reaching speeds of 70mph before colliding with Suzanne Cherry, a golfer, who later died from her injuries. During the pursuit, McDonald drove recklessly, hitting a police car multiple times.
