Fears of deportations and visa cancellations rise at Florida’s diverse universities after administrators signed agreements making campus police agents of federal immigration enforcement. Miami’s Florida International University (FIU) is among at least 11 colleges participating in the ICE 287(g) program, granting local police new powers to question and detain students regarding their immigration status. As protests erupt over these collaborations, concerns grow that international students may hesitate to report crimes or seek help, fearing potential repercussions from campus law enforcement.
